WHO MV ANALYSIS: BRILLIANT STORY TELLING, QUEER CODING AND MORE
I have a lot to say. And yes i positively feel like a clown that this post comes right after jimin said "go ahead, misinterpret everything hehe". This might be a long one, so settle in. Also, if you are looking for this as some kind of validation for any ship, I'm afraid it might not serve that purpose (BUT keep reading!). This is simply an analysis of MV elements and cinematography in its purest form appreciating the brilliant work done by Lumpens and his assistant directors.
Part 1: Start of the story of a man in search of love
Let's start from the very beginning. Many of you have already figured out that Jimin is telling a story here (I'm not wrong yet Jimin, dammit). How do we know this? Look at that mini TV. Yes, this mini TV is actually our bookmark, our storyteller. In it's first appearance, it says "play" with a man walking at a normal pace, imitating jimin here, who is also walking.
Elements to notice here:-
The 'ONLY' signs on the road which mean these roads have only limited accessibility when it comes to directions. In my opinion, it symbolizes the rules that this world imposes on us. And here comes jimin whining/asking why he hasn't met 'her' even if he sees her at night? (imagines her) and thinks about her.

2. Also notice how it says "BLISS" on the neon sign but the world he's in is basically pre-tornado winds - there are papers flying, cars on fire, safety barrier tapes, even the mini TV is on fire. The flyer for the song says "who is!! Tornado of love" and basically serves as a warning that the 'tornado of love' is approaching soon.
3. Reference to 'Closer' (than this?) on the billboard with a man on it. Looks like a reference to a movie or song of 1995 which I haven't been able to find out yet. [help me]
Part 2: Searching gets more desperate
Moving on, we see Jimin entering the part of street with an old, dilapidated building in the background (so much to notice here!!)

Elements to look out:
Firstly, look at the mini TV which still says 'play' but the man in the TV is now running instead of walking. Just like how Jimin's steps are faster now, he's on his search for 'her', but he's getting desperate.
Notice the engineers in the background? Yes they are engineers- they have plans, measuring devices etc. And they are working to "renovate" the building. Interesting choice of scene right before a tornado... let's found out why-
Notice that on the right side to the entrance of this building, there's "B-1" written on the walls, but one could also read it at "13 1" At first glance, that's what it seemed like to me. I think people renovating a building whose name looks like a "13" is symbolism for jimin trying to heal/renovate/repair his heart/emotions/past traumas. It's about him still being in that phase where he is healing/ trying to heal himself by trying to find 'her' OR maybe he's trying to find 'her' when he is not even completely healed himself.
See the TV on the shopping cart on fire because it will be referenced later. Put a pin on it.
Part-3 Theatrics
With a flash of retro cable TV like lights, the perspective changes - as in now you are watching inside the mini TV. I'm talking about this part, when he changes direction and goes to the girl. So many interesting things happen, I'm giddy thinking about writing it.

Elements to notice:
I can't help but think of the words 'auto calibration ' that flashes right before Jimin does that cunty choreo with the female dancer. 'auto calibration ' literally means 'standardization' or 'correction' . I don't think people realise how queer coded it is. 'coded' being the keyword here. It could also mean 'standardized' as in the way we view idols as these perfect people with perfect dating lives.

3. The car is on fire- so yeah whatever is happening cannot be good. Everything is still chaotic and doesn't make it easy
2. The mini TV now shows various images with a heart '<3' symbolizing that he is engaging in some kind of relationship, but this is literally the biggest 'drama' ever. Because look at this scene- it's pure cinema..

"So many people to see" - people watching them date/engage while making a whole show out of it. There's also an ambulance nearby because obviously an idol's dating life shown to the public can leave people hurt and offended. As Jimin and the girl dance, they are literally in front of a local theatre called the 'OASIS'. My interpretation is that a celeb's dating life is literally 'theatrics' for the public. They are reduced to nothing but characters for entertainment, and worst part is that the public isn't happy either. No wonder, making it extremely difficult for Jimin to find true love. Special mention where the girl has him in a chokehold, quite literally an uncomfortable position, entangled with each other- or at least that's how the public views them.
3) In the same scene we see that the mini TV has tumbled down along with the shopping cart which was on fire, hence setting the car on fire too lol. Brilliant attention to detail.

Part-4 - where Jimin gets more desperate to find true love (in the past!)
As soon as the dancers leave, we see the huge billboard fall down and if i go with all the clues we have been getting, especially the travel show...it is WILD.
Because people are focusing on the possible OST called "Keep going", but DO YOU NOT REALISE HOW HUGE IT IS THAT JK IS REFERENCED IN A ROMANTIC SONG? dropping from the sky with 'who' written on it??!! "Who" without the questions or exclamations. I'll let you go delulu mode on that one. Moving on-
You must have noticed that to show a change in phase/scene, they have used multicolored flashes and change to 90s TV perspective. The same happens now after the billboard drops but the important thing to notice is the "rewind" on the screen now. Which basically means jimin going through different people is a thing of the past.

3. The crow/raven seen multiple times in the MV. Either way, a crow or raven is not something we see at night. They come out only at times of 'unnatural exceptions' like storms, earthquakes etc because they are not nocturnal creatures. While Jimin was trying to find love, there was definitely something happening which wasn't natural for him or was out of his comfort zone/he was not himself.
4. Another instance of queer coding I noticed was both men and women walking past him, similar to Like Crazy MV. It had a different symbolism in LC because he was trying to stay in the dream. But here people walking past him clearly means possible romantic partners. And he keeps stopping, keeps trying his luck with different people, almost always failing. OR- it could mean there are people of both genders walking past him but he never goes for the men in the past.
Part-5 - The tornado of love finally arrives
Now it says 'Play' on the screen meaning we are now in the present again. The tornado has built up, Jimin looks more confident, more smug as the tornado gains momentum behind him.

A flash of light, fireworks erupt as he sings his heart out. Even after the tornado is completely gone, the sparks and short circuits and destruction continues, meaning the 'tornado of love' arrived and certainly did a number on him.

Finally, we see him on a much calmer path. All cars lined up. He owns his life now. The situation is under control, the cars with lights on, ready to go.

I truly appreciate the storytelling in WHO MV. Lumpens Sir delivering as always. And I would love to know which things were Jimin's ideas but he wouldn't share that with us would he?

since none of the poster-printing sites (block posters, rasterbator) were doing exactly what I wanted, here's a tutorial for you!
how to print out a seamless poster on a normal printer
download this free printer calibration sheet from blockposters (links: a4 - letter. I'm using the letter size one, since that's how my printer works)

2. set your printer settings so that it uses borderless printing, exactly the way you would if you were planning to print a high-quality photo.
3. print the calibration sheet, and then look at the edges of it. write down which arrows touch the edge of your printed sheet (for me this was 7 on the left, 10 on the bottom, 5 on the right, and 4 on the top)
4. open the calibration sheet image in GIMP (or another photo editor of your choice
(you can use the image I posted above for the letter one, but for A4 you can use an online convertor to make the pdf into a png)
5. create a rectangle that exactly covers up the arrows that were right at the edge of your paper this is your template!

6. now you can edit your poster image to fit within that rectangle! (I'm using this speed racer poster as example because of fucking course I am)

7. export the pieces of your poster to .png (the full sheet, not just the part in the template rectangle! include the whole 8.5" by 11" sheet!)

8. make sure you have enough ink!
9. print your poster using the exact same settings you used before to print the calibration sheet. for me, this was borderless, high-quality printing
10. let the ink dry, tape your shiny new poster together, and you're good to go!

bonus tips:
glossy paper is the best for printing posters
off-brand ink is cheap, and depending on your model of printer, it's often easy to refill ink yourself! with some (like mine), you can just drip the ink onto the lil sponge things in the cartridges!
if you're worried that your calibration measurement wasn't 100% accurate, you can leave some overlap in your image design, especially where the seam in the middle is. but it probably won't be necessary?
two 8.5"x11" sheets of paper = one 11"x17" poster! but you can go as big as you want with this. paper your walls like this, idk
make sure your images are at a high enough resolution to look okay when printed! ideal print quality is 300ppi, but I printed this at 200ppi and it was fine. 150ppi would probably be fine too, but if you go too low it'll start to look fuzzy

The Box Lady of Benton
It was October 8th, 1976 and Norman Skoog had spent the day harvesting his “back 40,” acres of corn along Benton County Road 200 South. Around 5pm, while harvesting in a remote spot about a mile-and-a-half from the Skoog home, he made a bizarre discovery. A white cardboard box wrapped in tape and rope sat on the ground roughly nine rows deep in the field, approximately 15 yards off of the gravel road. Norman had nearly ran over the box with his combine. When he got out to investigate the box, he realized it was far too heavy for him to lift alone. He left on his combine to get his father-in-law and his pickup. Together, they loaded the box into the bed of the truck and drove it to the Skoog home.
Curtis Skoog, 16, was first to notice the pungent odor of cheap perfume coming from within the box. Using a pocket knife, he sliced open a section of the box to find a broken vial of perfume lying atop something wrapped in layers of plastic. Concerned what may be inside, Norman phoned police. He told Curtis to return the vial to the box and wait for the Sheriff to arrive.
Sheriff Donal Steely arrived at the Skoog home a short time later to inspect the suspicious package. As he began to cut into the thick sheets of heavy plastic and rope, a new foul smell wafted out of the box. Steely decided he should contact the State Police before proceeding any further. Indiana State Police arrived and opened the box. Beneath the layers of plastic sheeting and rope, they discovered the body of a woman. The body was taken to the local coroners office, and later an autopsy was preformed in Lafayette, Indiana.
It was concluded that the woman’s cause of death was from a small calibre single gunshot wound at the base of her neck fired at close range. The bullet was never recovered. Her death was estimated to have occurred 7-10 days before being found, but it was noted that very little decomposition had occurred.
She was found in the fetal position with her knees pressed firmly against her chest. Her body was bound with rope and her hands were tied under her knees. Her head and face were wrapped in white paper towelling, and two small plastic bags had been tied over her head. Her body had been wrapped in several layers of thick plastic, similar to those used as runners to protect carpet. White clothesline style rope and heavy duty duct tape had been used to tie the plastic around the body and was so tightly bound, it had distorted and bruised the woman’s face.
The woman was white, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighed around 175 pounds, and was estimated to be around 60 years of age. The woman wore a green 2-piece pants suit that was covered in blood, but otherwise clean. She wore no makeup, shoes, pantyhose, or jewelry and had no identification. She had a few distinguishing facial features, including a large “bump” on the bridge of her nose and “abnormally large ears.”
It was evident the woman had undergone several surgeries. She had undergone a radical mastectomy, and bore a vertical surgical scar on her mid-section which extended from her sternum to her stomach. She had also undergone extensive dental work, though she was in need of more.
Her makeshift “coffin” was a white cardboard box measuring 3-by-2-by-1-foot. The box was a typical moving box, stamped with a factory label reading “wardrobe.” Another part of the box bore a handwritten notation reading “hall closet.” It was learned that the box had been manufactured in Illinois. Inside of the box, the small vial of perfume was found, however it had no label. The box itself had been sealed with tape and the same rope that was used to bind the woman. Investigators believe the box had been left at the location the same day it was found. Heavy rains had blanketed the area the previous day into the early morning hours and the box showed no signs of moisture damage.
Police attempted to use fingerprints to identify the unknown woman, however they never found a match. This led them to the conclusion she had never been arrested, or held a civil service job. A sketch of the woman was released to the public in the hopes of identifying her, however no one came forward to claim her body. Eventually, she was buried in an unmarked grave in Fowler Cemetery.
The investigation continued and several people came forward from states as far away as Alabama believing the unknown woman may be their missing loved one. Unfortunately she was not a match to any of them.
Multiple theories existed, from everything to a “mob-hit,” to a wrong place wrong time scenario. However the most bizarre, and seemingly most accepted theory, is that the box was dropped from a helicopter.
While the area the box was found is extremely rural, it is also a tight knit community of farmers who are outside from sun up to sun down. According to them, they would have noticed someone driving along the gravel road that morning, and while they didn’t spot any suspicious cars, they did see a helicopter fly over the field early that morning. According to three separate witness statements, the helicopter approached from the northeast, swung to the southwest, and hovered near the ground for a few seconds where the box was found.
A second piece of evidence supporting the helicopter theory is that when police searched the area where the box was found, they discovered an irregular circle of exposed black dirt around the dumping site. During harvest, corn stalks litter the ground covering the soil. The powerful updraft created by a helicopter could cause the stalks to scatter leaving the ground exposed and leaving a circular “imprint” like the one discovered at the scene.

This is the tedious work behind your favorite music that you rarely get to see. When i was an engineers apprentice, this was the sound that accompanied the start of every morning. In this video a studio apprentice is adjusting the calibration and alignment of the Studer A80 tape machine at Omega Recording Studio. The MRL Calibration Tape plays a 1khz frequency at 250nWb/m. The Weber is the unit of magnetic flux, or in layman’s terms, magnetic strength. It is an important measurement for getting signals on and off of magnetic tape (whether digital or analog). One Weber is much too large a unit to be relevant with tape recorders, so the nanoweber (one billionth of a Weber) is a standard unit of measurement. The recorded level of tape is expressed in nanowebers per meter of tape. Especially in analog recording, the signal level to tape is a critical component in the performance of the tape. Too high a level, and you get distortion  and lack of headroom, but with too low a level, your signal-to-noise is compromised. The proper recording level for tape depends a lot on the formulation of the tape and the electrical/magnetic characteristics of the recorder. Recorders are thus aligned using standard reference tapes containing tones at known levels rated in nanowebers per meter. Once the machine is calibrated to a reference, it becomes possible to optimize its levels for the particular formulation of tape desired through another alignment procedure. Recording to tape is just as much an artform as making the music itself.

...and knows their way around AI?
If you're been reading my posts for a while you will remember I love horse racing and especially love betting on horse racing. I've been doing it for about 55 years and have seen thousands and thousands of races live and on TV. Now that I'm retired I have wanted to get more serious about it. About four years ago I wrote an algorithm and hired someone to code it in Excel. It was an interesting process and took several months.
The screenshots above show the entries/results of the 2022 Breeder's Cup Juvenile, a $2 million dollar race for two year-olds. The winner at a handsome 5/1 was Forte (also the current favourite for this year's Kentucky Derby). You can see by the number circled in red (in the yellow column) of my handicapping program that it was a most probable (MPW) winner.
My program works fairly well but is decidedly incomplete. There are easily 25 variables for each horse entered in a race -- the obvious ones are class, distance, weight, age, surface, conditioning (fitness), trainer, and jockey. Many of these are objective, some are subjective, all need to be weighed when performing comparative analysis with the other horses in the race. In short, handicapping cries out for intense data crunching and automation. This is where AI comes in.
It's my understanding that AI can be taught how to learn: I want to perform reverse engineering analysis on thousands of racers to see what characteristics and in what ratio winning horses shared that non-winners didn't. (Bear in mind that you don't need to be Secretariat to win a race, just be better than all the other horses in that race). Once an algorithm has been established it can be automatically applied to future races to identify MPWs for each race. They can be compared to the other horses to see to what extent they calculate as superior, in other words, which ones are the best bets. This can be done on a widespread basis for every race every day, the only constraint being the cost of data (not inconsiderable).
Hopefully the program can learn from its successes and failures to calibrate the process more finely. I am sure the same 'quant boys' who have aimed their computers at Wall Street are getting their feet wet in automated handicapping and wagering. However I'm convinced there's enough money on the table for dedicated non-professionals to make money.
If you've read this far and know AI, this is where you come in. I'm looking for a partnership, not an employee. We share in the work and in the end you are free to take the program and use it (privately) as you wish. We can continue to collaborate as long as you want. I have the secret sauce -- an objective way to measure the most important variable (class). We can have the computer show us the best way to measure and rank the other variables.
In parting I'll give you two anecdotes about class: in the 1920s they used tapes as barriers instead of starting gates. It is said when Man O' War stepped up to the tape, the other horses involuntarily took a step back. And the Bible of horse racing by Thomas Ainsley contains the single most important sentence you'll ever read about racing: "A classy horse may tire in the stretch but he will never give up".
Class always tells.
